Old New York

It's been a strange day. Stranger than most. I found my way back to New York after being away with the Brotherhood for so many years. Working with them was a great experience, I learned so much about technology in the Wastes and even a little about how a paramilitary group works. Unfortunately, their barriers to entry (even the nicer ones) were a bit much for me and I didn't want to remain an auxillary the rest of my life. I yearned for that freedom in the old pirate novels my mother left me. So I decided some time ago that it was best to respectfully part ways with the Brotherhood and go find myself a workshop to see my dreams come true.
While making my way through Manhattan, I came across this incredibly interesting piece of salvage. I thought to myself, "Boyo, you're a lucky one!" Of course that's when the greenskins showed up. I've never been much of a fighter so I hid, to my shame. I watched from a second story window as greenskins attacked a building across the street. They went after it with a fury and a battle ensued, and it sounded like a lot of people living there were dying.
Just as I started to put together a plan to help the poor people engaged in battle, a sound behind me roused me from my deep thinking. I spun around, drawing my revolver as I did so, just in time to see a greenskin barreling his way towards me, arms splayed wide to crush me in a grapple. To my credit, I got off 3 rounds before he crashed into me, both of us tumbling out the window I had just been using as a peephole. If the .44 magnum slugs I put in his chest and head didn't kill the big bastard, then the fall certainly did. Fortunately for me, I landed on top but everything went dark soon after.
I guess just before losing consciousness, I had the good sense to pull the big, smelling corpse on top of me. The next thing I knew, the body was moving and some big fella was pulling me out of the pile of bodies in which I had landed. He said the battle was over and a bunch of his friends died. Sounded pretty sad, and I certainly was going to need a mite bight of assistance if I was going to survive this city. So I offered him my services as an engineer, and he offered me his as a bodyguard. It was a match made in the heavens!

We ended up digging another survivor out of the bodies across the street. Some emaciated mute girl who turned out to be a necromancer! I bet some rival necromage stole her tongue! Hmm...maybe I can build her a mechanical one...anyway, turns out she's a bit of a chemist too...or she's addicted to chems...couldn't really tell.
Looks like now we've got ourselves a job. The big fella, Jack, took us to see some "king" of the "Empire" to broker a deal for a water filter for a third party. I did some of the talking and decided to smooth things over, I convinced the king that it would be a good PR move to let Carnegiehall have the device in good faith, with some stipulations. Of course, this meant we had to do a job for him.
Now, we're headed off to scout out some greenskin encampment, at the pre-settlement stage. Going to recon it, and destroy it, all in the name of the Empire. Jack shoved a rifle in my hands as we descended the steps to find his brahmin. Guess I'm going to have to learn some new skills...
